Andīmeshk is a small city located in the southwestern part of Iran, In the province of Khuzestan. It is situated about 60 kilometers from the city of Ahvaz and covers an area of around 4, 000 square kilometers. The name Andīmeshk is derived from two Persian words: and meaning fire and meshk meaning place. Andīmeshk literally means a place where fire burns. The history of Andīmeshk dates back to ancient times when it was known as Houta or Houtamash.

During the Achaemenid Empire, It was an important center for agriculture and trade due to its location on the banks of Karun River. Later on, During the Sassanian Empire, It became a strategic military base for defending against Arab invasions. One of the most significant attractions in Andīmeshk is its historical bridge called Pol-e Dokhtar (the Maiden Bridge). This bridge was constructed during Sassanian period and has been reconstructed several times since then. It spans over Karun River and connects two parts of Andīmeshk city.

The bridge has become a symbol of Iranian architecture due to its unique design that includes arches with pointed tips. Another interesting attraction in Andīmeshk is Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System which belongs to Sassanian era as well. This system consists of canals, Dams, Watermills, Tunnels and bridges that were used for irrigation purposes as well as powering flour mills and other industries. Andimeshk also has some natural wonders such as Gahar Lake which is located about 25 kilometers from the city center.

This lake covers an area of around 20 hectares and offers beautiful scenery with its crystal-clear water surrounded by mountains covered with oak trees. Apart from these attractions, Andimeshk offers various activities such as hiking in Zagros Mountains or visiting local bazaars to buy handicrafts and souvenirs. The city is also famous for its delicious local cuisine such as Abgoosht (a stew made with lamb, Chickpeas, And potatoes) and Ghormeh Sabzi (a herb-based stew with beef or lamb).
