Antananarivo, Also known as Tana, Is the capital and largest city of Madagascar. It is located in the central highlands of the island nation, Sitting at an elevation of approximately 1, 400 meters above sea level. The city’s name translates to City of a Thousand, Referring to the many hills that make up its landscape. One of Antananarivo’s most prominent landmarks is the Rova of Antananarivo – a royal palace complex that dates back to the 17th century. Although partially destroyed by fire in 1995, It has since been restored and is now open for visitors.
