  1. Chikmagalur is the birthplace of K. Hanumanthaiah, a renowned Indian national leader and freedom fighter.
  2. In 1117 CE, an important battle between the Hoysala Empire and the Cholas took place in the Chikmagalur district.
  3. The town has a rich history with coffee cultivation in India, which began in 1670 when Baba Budan smuggled seven coffee beans from Yemen into India and planted them on the hills surrounding Chikmagalur.
