Chinguar is a small town situated in the central region of Angola, Specifically in the province of Bie. The town boasts beautiful landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. It has a population of around 20, 000 residents who enjoy warm temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius all year round. One of Chinguar’s most remarkable features is its stunning natural beauty.

    2. It was part of the Portuguese colony of Angola from the 16th century until independence in 1975
    3. During the Angolan Civil War (1975-2002), Chinguar was a strategic location for both government and rebel forces
    4. Jonas Savimbi, the leader of UNITA rebel group during the civil war, had his headquarters in nearby Jamba
    5. A major battle took place near Chinguar in 1988 between Angolan government forces supported by Cuban troops and South African-backed UNITA rebels known as Battle of Cuito Cuanavale
    6. Agostinho Neto, who was Angola’s first president after independence, visited Chinguar during his presidency to inaugurate several development projects
    7. José Eduardo dos Santos, who served as Angola’s second president also visited Chinguar during his presidency to inspect development projects and meet with local officials
    8. Unfortunately, there were also tragic events that occurred near Chinguar such as the Bié Province Massacre where over 100 civilians were killed by government troops in January 1993
    9. Due to its location on former battlefields, many areas around Chinguar are still contaminated with landmines today
