It was established in 1963 as a project to accommodate low-income families who were relocating to the area. The city was named after Nezahualcoyotl, An Aztec poet-king who ruled over Texcoco during the 15th century. Nowadays, Neza is one of the biggest and most populous cities in Mexico with over 1 million inhabitants.
