It is situated approximately 74 kilometers (46 miles) north of Cali, The capital of Valle del Cauca. The city has a population of around 120, 000 people and is known for its beautiful colonial architecture and religious significance. The city was founded in 1555 by Spanish conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar. Initially named Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de los Milagros, It later became known as Guadalajara de Buga.
