It was founded in 1977 and named after the Ji-Paraná River that flows through it. The economy of Ji-Paraná is mainly based on agriculture and cattle ranching. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Ji-Paraná is Parque Ecológico Urupá which covers over 500 hectares.
