Kafue is a town located in the central province of Zambia, Situated on the banks of the Kafue River. The river provides water for both domestic and industrial use, And the town has a population of approximately 20, 000 people mainly engaged in agriculture, Fishing, And small-scale businesses. One of Kafue’s main attractions is the Kafue National Park which covers an area of approximately 22, 400 square kilometers. It is one of Africa’s largest game reserves and home to over 55 mammal species including elephants, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Zebras as well as over 300 bird species.

Visitors can enjoy game drives or walking safaris guided by experienced rangers. Lake Itezhi-Tezhi is another attraction in Kafue created by damming the Kafue River. The lake spans an area of approximately 380 square kilometers offering excellent opportunities for fishing and boating activities.   3. The Itezhi-Tezhi Dam was built on the Kafue River to generate hydroelectric power for Zambia. Completed in 1977, it has a capacity of 120 megawatts.
  4. Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe was a Zambian politician who played an essential role in his country’s independence from British colonial rule. Born in Chinsali, he later settled in Kafue where he worked as a teacher before joining politics.
  5. Kenneth Kaunda served as Zambia’s first president after gaining independence from Britain from 1964 to 1991 and visited Kafue several times during his presidency to inspect various development projects like schools, hospitals, and roads.
  6. The Battle of Luchenza Hill occurred during World War I between German forces and British troops led by General Edward Northey near Luchenza Hill located near present-day Mumbwa District within the province of Kafue.
