Kalmunai is a charming coastal town located in the Ampara district of Sri Lanka. It is situated on the eastern coast of the island and boasts a rich cultural heritage, Stunning beaches, And an abundance of natural beauty. The town has a population of around 100, 000 people and is known for its thriving fishing industry. One of the most notable features of Kalmunai is its beautiful beaches. The town has several pristine stretches of sand that are perfect for swimming, Sunbathing or simply taking a relaxing stroll along the shoreline.

One such beach is Pasikuda Beach which boasts crystal clear waters and soft white sand. Another popular spot for tourists to visit is Kalkudah Beach which offers breathtaking views and excellent water sports facilities. In addition to its beautiful beaches, Kalmunai also has several historic landmarks that are worth exploring. One such landmark is the Meera Jumma Mosque which dates back to 7th century AD and stands as one of the oldest mosques in Sri Lanka. Another notable attraction in Kalmunai is Batticaloa Lighthouse which was built during British colonial rule in 1913.

The town also holds significance as it was one of the areas affected by the devastating tsunami that struck Sri Lanka in December 2004.
