Koumassi is a commune located in the southern part of Abidjan, The largest city and economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire. It is situated on the eastern side of Abidjan and shares borders with Yopougon to the west, Port-Bouët to the south, Marcory to the north, And Treichville to the northwest. The population of Koumassi is estimated at around 500, 000 people. The history of Koumassi dates back to pre-colonial times when it was inhabited by various ethnic groups like Baoulé and Agni. During colonial rule, Koumassi became an important center for trade due to its proximity to Abidjan’s port.

Today it remains a vibrant commercial hub with numerous markets selling fresh produce and textiles. Stade Robert Champroux is one notable landmark in Koumassi which serves as a sports stadium for football matches and other events. The stadium has hosted several international tournaments including games during the 1984 African Cup of Nations. The people of Koumassi are known for their hospitality towards visitors reflecting their strong sense of community spirit which is reflected in cultural practices such as traditional dances like Zaouli and Goli performed during festivals.
