Mashhad is the second-largest city in Iran and the capital of Khorasan Razavi province. It is known as the holiest city in Iran and a pilgrimage site for millions of Shia Muslims each year. The city’s name means place of martyrdom and refers to the death of Imam Reza, One of Shia Islam’s most revered figures. His tomb is located in Mashhad and draws visitors from all over the world.
