Melitopol is a city located in southern Ukraine, Situated on the Molochna River. It is the second-largest city in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, With a population of around 150, 000 people. Melitopol has been an important center for industry and transportation for centuries and remains so today, With agriculture and manufacturing being significant contributors to its economy. The city was established as a fortress by Catherine II in 1784 to safeguard Russia’s southern borders from Ottoman invasions. The name Melitopol derives from the Greek words melitos (honey) and polis (city), Reflecting the region’s long-standing tradition of beekeeping.

During World War II, German forces occupied Melitopol for two years before it was liberated by Soviet troops.
