Nantong is a city situated in the eastern part of China, Specifically in the Jiangsu province. It has a population of over 7 million people, Making it one of the largest cities in the area and an important economic hub due to its strategic location on the Yangtze River Delta.   4. Li Shutong or Master Hongyi was a Buddhist monk, calligrapher, painter, poet, and musician who lived in Nantong for many years.
  5. The May Fourth Movement occurred in 1919 as a student-led protest movement throughout China after Japan was awarded former German concessions instead of returning them to China; students from Nantong played an active role during this movement.
  6. Liu Haisu is one of China’s most famous painters and art educators who taught at Nantong Art School despite being born nearby Changzhou.
