Pikit is a municipality in the province of Cotabato, Philippines. It’s located in the northern part of Cotabato and shares borders with Maguindanao and Bukidnon provinces. The town is famous for its cultural heritage, Natural scenery, And busy marketplaces. The Grand Mosque is one of Pikit’s most popular landmarks. It represents the town’s Islamic faith and features beautiful architecture that attracts visitors from all over the world.   • Noteable History

    1. The Battle of Pikit occurred during the Philippine-American War in 1899, with Filipino forces led by General Emilio Aguinaldo fighting against American troops.
    2. Pikit was also affected by the Moro Rebellion from 1899 to 1913, led by Muslim groups resisting American colonization and seeking an independent Islamic state.
    3. Datu Piang, also known as Sultan Mohammad Dipatuan Kudarat II, played a key role in defending his territory against American forces during the Moro Rebellion.
    4. The Maguindanao Massacre took place near Pikit in November 2009 and resulted in the deaths of at least 58 people, including journalists and members of a political clan.
    5. In March 2014, representatives from the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed a peace agreement aimed at ending conflict in Mindanao, including areas like Pikit affected by separatist movements.
    6. Mayor Sumulong Macarambon Jr., who served for three terms as mayor of Pikit town before his death on May 13th due to complications brought about by COVID-19 pandemic.
    7. Mayor Sammy Tauli is currently serving as mayor after winning the May elections last year (2019).
