Shekhupura is a city in the Punjab province of Pakistan, Located about 40 kilometers northwest of Lahore. The city has a population of approximately 500, 000 people and was founded in the early 17th century by Mughal Emperor Jahangir. It was named after his son, Sheikhu. One of the most notable landmarks in Shekhupura is Hiran Minar, A large tower built by Emperor Jahangir to honor his pet deer. The tower stands over 100 feet tall and features intricate carvings and designs on its exterior walls. Visitors can also explore Sheikhupura Fort nearby, Which dates back to the early 1600s.

Another popular attraction is Shalimar Gardens, Built during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan in the mid-17th century. Noteable History

  1. The city was founded by Emperor Jahangir in 1607 and was named after his wife, Nur Jahan, who belonged to the town of Sheikhupur.

  3. In 1857, during the Indian Rebellion against British rule, a group of rebels led by Maulvi Ahmadullah Shah attacked Shekhupura but were eventually defeated by British forces.
  4. Allama Iqbal, one of Pakistan’s most famous poets and philosophers, was born in Sialkot but spent much of his childhood in Shekhupura where his father worked as a tailor.
  5. Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi, a prominent politician and former Chief Minister of Punjab province from 1985-1988 and again from 1993-1996, hails from Shekhupura.
