  2. The area where Thornton is located was initially inhabited by the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes.
  3. In 1870, a stagecoach stop was established in the area that later became Thornton.
  4. In 1954, Sam Hoffman purchased land in the area to build a housing development called Northglenn.
  5. Two years later, in 1956, Thornton officially became a city.
  6. By 1965, its population had exceeded 10,000 residents.
