  2. Kim Jong-hak: Born in Uiwang in 1947, Kim Jong-hak was a renowned film director who directed several popular Korean dramas such as The Legend and Sandglass.
  3. Yoon Seok-youl: Yoon Seok-youl was born in Uiwang in 1960 and went on to become one of South Korea’s most prominent prosecutors. He served as the head prosecutor for Seoul Central District Court before being appointed as Prosecutor General by President Moon Jae-in in 2019.
  4. Gwangju Uprising: Although not directly related to Uiwang itself, the Gwangju Uprising occurred just over an hour’s drive away from the city. The uprising took place in May 1980 when citizens protested against martial law imposed by military dictator Chun Doo-hwan.
