Yangquan is a city located in Shanxi province, China. The city covers an area of 4, 470 square kilometers and has a population of over 1 million people. It is known for its rich history, Natural beauty, And cultural heritage. One of the most popular attractions in Yangquan is the Hengshan Mountain Range. This range stretches for over 150 kilometers and features peaks that rise up to 2, 000 meters above sea level. The Wang Family Courtyard is another traditional Chinese courtyard worth visiting in Yangquan. Built during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), It covers an area of over 150, 000 square meters with more than 200 rooms arranged around five courtyards.     1. The Battle of Yangquan occurred during the Chinese Civil War in 1947 when the Communist Party of China fought against the Nationalist government for control of Yangquan. The Communists emerged as the victors and established their rule over the city.
    2. Wang Zhaojun was a legendary beauty from ancient China who hailed from Yangquan. She was one of the Four Beauties of ancient China and became a concubine to Emperor Yuan during Han Dynasty after being sent as a tribute to him.
    3. Emperor Wu of Northern Zhou established his capital in Yangzhou, which is now known as Yangquan, during his reign from 560 to 578 AD.
    4. Cheng Yuzong was a famous calligrapher and painter who lived during Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). He was renowned for his skillful use of ink and brush, and many still admire his works today.
    5. Liang Sicheng made significant contributions to Chinese architectural history as an architect and scholar, including research on traditional Chinese architecture preservation efforts for historic sites like Great Wall.
    6. Liu Haisu was born in Yangquan in 1896 and became a renowned artist after studying art in Europe before returning home to become one of modern Chinese art’s leading figures.
    7. Zhang Xueliang played an important role in modern Chinese history as a warlord who led an unsuccessful rebellion against Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist government known as The Xi’an Incident. After Mao Zedong’s Communist forces defeated Chiang’s government, Zhang spent several years under house arrest in Yangquan following release from prison by them.
    8. Guo Moruo served as Vice Chairman at People’s Congresses’ Standing Committee from 1959 until he died at age 85 in 1978; he was a prominent figure within Chinese Communist Party remembered for contributions made towards literature & culture.
