Amadora is a city in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area of Portugal, With a population of over 175, 000 people. The name Amadora comes from the Latin word amator, Meaning lover or admirer because it used to be a popular destination for couples looking to escape from Lisbon. Despite its size, Amadora has many attractions for visitors. One of its main draws is the Centro Comercial Dolce Vita Tejo shopping mall, One of Europe’s largest malls with over 400 stores and restaurants. There are also several parks and green spaces throughout Amadora that are perfect for outdoor activities.

Parque da Paz (Park of Peace) is one such park covering an area of 20 hectares with walking trails, Picnic areas, Playgrounds for children, Sports facilities like tennis courts and football fields as well as an artificial lake where visitors can rent paddle boats or kayaks. Another popular spot among locals is Parque Aventura Sniper (Sniper Adventure Park), Which offers various outdoor activities like zip-lining courses through trees. Sports Teams

  • Amavita Futebol Clube was founded in 1976 and played in the lower divisions of Portuguese football until it was dissolved in 2013 due to financial difficulties.
  • Estrela da Amadora was founded in 1932 and played at the highest level of Portuguese football for several seasons before being dissolved in 2011 due to financial problems.
  • Basket Club da Amadora is a basketball club that was founded in 1954 and has had some success over the years. The team has won the Portuguese Cup twice (in 1995 and 1997).
  • Rugby Clube de Massamá is another team that was founded in 1989 and has had some success at the regional level. The club has won the Lisbon Regional Championship several times.
