Baidoa is a city situated in the southwestern region of Somalia, Located between Mogadishu and Jowhar. It serves as the capital of Bay region and has an estimated population of 150, 000 people. The city’s strategic location along major trade routes has made it an important center for trade and commerce since ancient times. The city boasts a rich cultural heritage with various ethnic groups living together peacefully. Although the majority of the population is Somali, There are also significant numbers of Bantu and Arab minorities who have lived in the area for centuries.

The wet season runs from April to June while the dry season lasts from July to September. During these months, Temperatures can rise as high as 35°C (95°F), Making it hot and humid.   2. Mohamed Siad Barre: Mohamed Siad Barre was a former military officer who governed Somalia from 1969 until his removal in 1991 during the civil war. He was born near Baidoa and had strong connections to the region.
  3. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud: Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is a Somali politician who served as President of Somalia from 2012 to 2017. He originates from Baidoa and played an essential part in negotiating peace deals during his tenure.
  4. Operation Restore Hope: In December 1992, US Marines arrived in Baidoa as part of Operation Restore Hope, aimed at providing humanitarian assistance to famine-stricken Somalis.

  9. The Battle of Baidoa: In January 2022, there was a battle between Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab militants in Baidoa, which resulted in the death of several people on both sides.
