Beaumont, Located in southeastern Texas, Is the county seat of Jefferson County with a population of around 118, 000 people. The city covers an area of approximately 85 square miles and is situated on the Neches River near the Gulf of Mexico. The city was founded in 1835 and named after Mary Dewburleigh Barlace Warren Beaumont, The wife of one of its founders. Due to its location as a major port for shipping oil from nearby oil fields during the early 20th century, It grew rapidly.
Today, It remains an important center for petrochemicals with numerous refineries and chemical plants located in the surrounding area.
