Bharatpur is a city in central Nepal known for its cultural heritage and scenic beauty. It covers an area of 29 square kilometers and has a population of around 200, 000 people, Making it the fourth largest city in Nepal. The history of Bharatpur dates back to the early 18th century when Raja Ram Shah founded it. The city was named after his father, King Bharat Shah. Over time, Bharatpur has undergone many changes that have made it a bustling urban center.

One of the main attractions in Bharatpur is Chitwan National Park which covers over 900 square kilometers and is home to many endangered species such as tigers, Rhinos, Elephants, And crocodiles. Visitors can take jeep safaris or elephant rides through the park to see these magnificent animals in their natural habitat. Another popular attraction in Bharatpur is Narayani River which flows through the city providing opportunities for boating and fishing activities. The river also serves as a source of irrigation for nearby farms that grow crops such as rice, Wheat, Maize, And sugarcane.

The city also has many religious sites such as Bageshwori Temple which dates back to the 16th century. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva attracts thousands of devotees every year during festivals like Shivaratri. Bharatpur also has many educational institutions including medical colleges that attract students from all over Nepal as well as neighboring countries like India. The infrastructure development projects undertaken by both government agencies and private investors have made this region one of the fastest-growing areas economically. with its natural beauty combined with cultural heritage makes Bharatpur one of Nepal’s most popular tourist destinations.

  1. Holi Festival is a colorful celebration that takes place in Bharatpur and throughout Nepal during March. Participants throw colored powder and water at each other, dance, sing, and enjoy feasting.
  2. Teej Festival is observed by Hindu women in August or September to honor the goddess Parvati. Women dress up in traditional red attire and fast for their husband’s long life.
  3. Dashain Festival is Nepal’s largest festival, celebrated for 15 days between October and November to commemorate the triumph of good over evil when Goddess Durga defeated demon Mahishasur.
  4. Tihar Festival, also known as Diwali or Deepawali, lasts five days during October or November after Dashain to celebrate light overcoming darkness.
  5. The Chitwan Elephant Festival happens annually near Bharatpur’s Sauraha from December to January with events such as elephant races, football matches involving elephants, cultural shows & more.
  6. Maghe Sankranti Mela on January 14th marks the sun entering Capricorn from Sagittarius; people take a dip at Triveni Sangam (confluence of three rivers) to purify themselves from sins committed knowingly or unknowingly.
  7. Gai Jatra (Cow Festival) honors Newar community members who lost loved ones during that year; they wear cow costumes with horns & tails while mourning their loss & poking fun at others’ mistakes too!
