Chaohucun is a small village located in the Anhui province of China. It is famous for its rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty. The village is situated at the foot of Mount Huangshan, Which is one of China’s most famous mountains. It is surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque landscapes. The history of Chaohucun dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). During this time, It was established as a trading hub. Over time, It became an important center for silk production. Today, Visitors can still see traditional silk looms in operation and purchase exquisite handcrafted textiles from local artisans.

Chaohucun boasts over 200 ancient buildings dating from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) Dynasties. These include temples, Ancestral halls, And private residences that showcase traditional Chinese craftsmanship. The village’s location near Mount Huangshan means that it has access to fresh mountain produce like wild mushrooms and herbs that are used in local dishes such as braised pork belly with bamboo shoots or stir-fried mushrooms with garlic. Visitors can take leisurely walks along scenic paths lined with willow trees or explore nearby bamboo forests teeming with wildlife.

Cultural Events

  1. Dragon Boat Festival: This festival is observed on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (usually in June). It commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and statesman who drowned himself in a river. The festival involves dragon boat races and eating zongzi (sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves).
  2. Chinese New Year: This is one of the most significant festivals in China and is usually celebrated between late January to mid-February. It marks the beginning of a new lunar year with fireworks, red lanterns, lion dances, family gatherings and feasting.
  3. Lantern Festival: This festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month (usually February). People light up colorful lanterns to celebrate this occasion.
  4. Mid-Autumn Festival: Also known as Mooncake Festival or Zhongqiu Jie, this festival is held on 15th August every year according to Lunar calendar which falls around September/October every year.
  5. Qingming Festival: It is also known as Tomb Sweeping Day that usually occurs around April 4th or 5th each year where people visit their ancestors’ gravesites to pay respects by cleaning them up and leaving offerings like food or flowers.
