Chitradurga, Also known as Chitaldrug, Is a city located in the state of Karnataka, India. It sits at an altitude of 732 meters above sea level and has a population of approximately 150, 000 people. The city boasts a rich history dating back to the 3rd century BC when it was ruled by the Mauryan Empire. Over time, It was governed by various dynasties such as the Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas and Hoysalas. One of Chitradurga’s most notable landmarks is its fort which sits atop a hill.

The Nayakas built this fort during their reign in the 17th century; it covers an area of around 1, 500 acres and has seven walls with several gateways and watchtowers used for defense purposes during ancient times. Aside from its historical significance, Chitradurga is also renowned for its natural beauty surrounded by hills and forests that offer breathtaking views to visitors. One popular attraction that draws tourists is Chandravalli Caves located about 10 km from Chitradurga city center.
