Noteable History

  1. In 1985, Soekarno-Hatta Airport near Ciputat was attacked by terrorists. The Indonesian military successfully defeated them to prevent them from taking over the airport.
  2. Syarifah Hanum Siregar was an Indonesian feminist who fought for women’s rights during the early 20th century. She was born in Ciputat in 1898 and passed away in Jakarta in 1946.
  3. Indonesians celebrate Kartini Day on April 21st every year to honor Raden Ajeng Kartini, an Indonesian national heroine who fought for women’s education and emancipation during colonial times.
  4. Muhammad Hatta, one of Indonesia’s founding fathers, grew up in Ciputat before moving to Batavia (now Jakarta) for his education.
  5. In 2003, there was a bombing at Pondok Indah Mall II near Ciputat that resulted in twelve deaths and over one hundred injuries.
