  4. Amaziah Lord Knox was an early settler in El Cajon who established a successful farming operation and played a key role in developing the community’s infrastructure.
  5. Like many other communities across the United States, El Cajon was deeply impacted by the Great Depression during the 1930s.
  6. During World War II, El Cajon became home to several military installations and defense contractors that played a critical role in supporting Allied efforts overseas.
  7. Basketball legend Bill Walton grew up in East County San Diego and attended Helix High School in nearby La Mesa before going on to play at UCLA and later with several NBA teams.
