  1. The Battle of Gaoping occurred in 383 AD between the Jin Dynasty and Former Qin Dynasty, resulting in a significant victory for the Jin Dynasty.
  2. Guo Ziyi, a renowned general during the Tang Dynasty, was born in Gaoping.
  3. During the Tang Dynasty, Gaoping served as an essential military base that helped suppress The An Lushan Rebellion.
  4. Li Yuanhao founded and ruled over parts of China from 1038 to 1227 as a warlord who established the Western Xia dynasty; he was born in Gaoping.
  5. In Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist government’s Northern Expedition against warlords and Communist forces during the Chinese Civil War, Gaoping played an important role.
  6. Yang Jingyu fought against Japanese invaders during World War II as a Communist Party leader and died fighting Nationalist forces near Gaoping in 1947.
  7. Wang Hongwen was one of Mao Zedong’s closest associates during China’s Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) but spent time imprisoned near Gaoping after being purged from power following Mao’s death.
  8. Zhang Xueliang led troops against both Nationalist and Japanese forces during his career as a military commander in early twentieth-century China; he was also known as The Young Marshal.
  9. The Long March took place from October 1934 to October 1935 when Red Army soldiers passed through parts of what is now modern-day Sichuan province, including areas around present-day gaoping city before eventually arriving at their final destination Yan’an Shaanxi province.
