Garoua is a city located in the northern region of Cameroon, Serving as the capital of the North Region. It is considered one of the largest cities in Cameroon with a population of approximately 400, 000 people. The city boasts a rich cultural heritage, Vibrant markets and stunning landscapes. Garoua has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons: dry season from November to March and rainy season from April to October. The temperature ranges between 25-35°C throughout the year. Due to its location near the Sahel region, Garoua experiences hot winds that blow across from Chad.

One of Garoua’s main attractions is its bustling markets which are filled with vendors selling traditional textiles, Spices, Foodstuffs, Pottery and handmade crafts. The central market in Garoua attracts visitors from all over Cameroon who come here to experience local culture and buy souvenirs. The Grand Mosque is one notable landmark worth visiting; it was built by French colonialists in 1928 as an effort to introduce Islam into this predominantly Christian area. Another landmark worth exploring is The Lamido’s Palace which was built during colonial times as a residence for local rulers known as Lamidos.

Garoua also offers breathtaking natural scenery including Lake Maga which lies just outside town on an ancient caravan route that once linked West Africa with North Africa via Chad.
