Huangshi is a city located in the eastern part of Hubei Province, China. It is situated on the southern bank of the Yangtze River and covers an area of 4, 581 square kilometers. The city has a population of around 2.5 million people and is renowned for its rich history, Scenic beauty, And industrial development. One of Huangshi’s most famous attractions is Daye Lake which spans over an area of 22 square kilometers surrounded by verdant green hills. The lake was formed over five centuries ago due to a massive earthquake that caused a landslide blocking the nearby river’s flow.

Today it serves as an essential source for drinking water to local residents while attracting tourists from across China. Another popular destination in Huangshi is Tieshan Temple dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). The temple complex comprises several buildings with intricate carvings and statues illustrating Buddhist teachings and mythology. Visitors can climb to Tieshan Mountain’s top for panoramic views of Huangshi’s surrounding countryside.

  1. The Battle of Huangshi: During the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Chinese army fought against Japanese forces in Huangshi. The battle lasted for three days and resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.
  2. Mao Zedong: The founder of the People’s Republic of China visited Huangshi in 1960 during his tour of Hubei province.
  3. Liu Shaoqi: A prominent leader during the early years of Communist China, Liu Shaoqi was born in Hunan but spent much of his life working in Hubei province, including a stint as a teacher in Huangshi.
  4. Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation (WISCO): Founded in 1958, WISCO is one of China’s largest steel producers and has its headquarters in Wuhan but operates several facilities throughout Hubei province, including one located near Huangshi.
  5. Yellow Crane Tower: A famous landmark located on Snake Hill overlooking the Yangtze River, Yellow Crane Tower has been rebuilt several times over its long history dating back to at least the third century AD.
