Hugli, Also known as Hooghly, Is a city located in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is situated on the banks of the river Hugli and is approximately 50 kilometers from Kolkata, The capital city of West Bengal. The city has a rich cultural heritage and is known for its historical significance. Hugli was once an important center for trade during the colonial era. The British East India Company established their first trading post in this region in 1651. Later on, It became a major port for exporting jute and other commodities to Europe.

Today, Hugli still remains an important industrial hub with several factories that produce jute products, Textiles, And chemicals. One of the most prominent landmarks in Hugli is the Imambara mosque which was built by Muhammad Mohsin in 1841. It is one of the largest mosques in India and attracts visitors from all over the world due to its architectural beauty and historical significance. 8. The Indian National Congress held its first session outside Bombay (now Mumbai) at Belur Math near Kolkata from September 27 to October 1st ,1896 under Swami Vivekananda where he delivered his famous speech ‘Sisters & Brothers of America’.
