The city is situated on the eastern edge of the Yoruba-speaking region of Nigeria and lies about 30 miles northeast of Osogbo, The state capital. Iwo has a rich history dating back to pre-colonial times. The town was founded by an Ifa priest named Oluyole who migrated from Ile-Ife, One of the ancient cities in Nigeria.
