Karachi is the largest and most populous city in Pakistan, With a population of over 14 million people. It is located on the southern coast of Pakistan, Along the Arabian Sea. Karachi has a rich history dating back to prehistoric times when it was known as Kolachi. Over the centuries, It has been ruled by various empires and dynasties, Including the Greeks, Arabs, Mughals and British. Today, Karachi serves as Pakistan’s economic hub and is home to many large corporations and industries such as textiles, Finance and shipping.

The city’s port is one of the busiest in South Asia and handles a significant portion of Pakistan’s trade. Noteable History

  1. Karachi was a small fishing village until the British East India Company annexed it in 1839.
  2. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, lived in Karachi and is buried there.
  3. The All India Muslim League held its annual session in Karachi in 1943, where the famous Pakistan Resolution was passed.
  4. In 1947, when Pakistan gained independence from British rule, Karachi became its capital city.
  5. The first Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in Liaquat Bagh Park located in Karachi on October 16th, 1951.
  6. The city experienced massive riots and violence during the partition of India and Pakistan in August 1947.
  7. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto founded his political party (Pakistan People’s Party) at his residence called 70 Clifton located in Karachi on November 30th,1967.
  8. Benazir Bhutto became the first female Prime Minister of any Muslim country after winning elections from a constituency located within Karachi on Dec-2nd-1988.
  9. On December 27th-2007 Benazir Bhutto was assassinated while leaving an election rally at Liaquat Bagh Park located within Rawalpindi near Islamabad but her funeral procession started from Bilawal House which is situated inside Clifton Block-2 area of Karchi.
  10. The city has been home to many famous personalities including musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan; cricketers Imran Khan and Javed Miandad; actor Om Puri; writer Saadat Hasan Manto; artist Sadequain Naqvi amongst others.

  1. The Karachi Kings is a franchise cricket team representing the city of Karachi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). They won their first PSL title in 2020 after being formed in 2015.
  2. The Karachi United Football Club is a professional football club based in Karachi, Pakistan that was founded in 1996. They have won multiple domestic titles, including the National Challenge Cup.
  3. The Pakistan Navy Football Club is another professional football club based in Karachi, Pakistan that was founded back in 1959. They have also won multiple domestic titles, including the National Challenge Cup.
  4. The Sindh Rugby Association promotes rugby union throughout Sindh province and organizes regular tournaments and events to encourage participation.
  5. K-Electric Sports Club is a sports club owned by K-Electric Limited that competes across various sports such as cricket, football, table tennis etc at different levels.
  6. The Karachi Port Trust Cricket Team was established by the Government of Pakistan to manage all port-related operations at Port of Karachi and its adjacent areas. They have been competing at domestic level for quite some time now.
  7. The Pakistan Customs Cricket Team represents Federal Board of Revenue (Pakistan) Customs department and participates regularly at domestic level tournaments like Quaid-e-Azam Trophy etc.
  8. The Karachi Dolphins were one of five regional teams created for Pakistani first-class cricket during restructuring process initiated by PCB back then. They played from 2004-05 till 2014-15 before being dissolved due to restructuring again.
