Lae is the second-largest city in Papua New Guinea, Located on the northern coast of the country. It serves as an important port for exporting goods such as timber, Coffee, Cocoa and minerals. The city has a population of approximately 100, 000 people and is home to a diverse mix of cultures including indigenous Papuans, Australians, Chinese and other Pacific Islanders. Lae has a rich history dating back to World War II when it was used as a base by Allied forces.
