Lu’an is a city located in the western part of Anhui Province, China. It covers an area of approximately 18, 000 square kilometers and has a population of over 5 million people. The city is strategically situated at the junction of three major rivers which makes it an important transportation hub for central China. The city has a rich cultural heritage dating back to ancient times. It was once known as Jinzhong during the Han Dynasty and became an important center for Taoism during the Tang Dynasty.

Today, Lu’an is home to many historical sites and cultural relics that reflect its long history. Mount Qiyun Scenic Area is one of Lu’an’s most famous tourist attractions. This mountain range covers over 290 square kilometers and boasts beautiful scenery including waterfalls, Cliffs, Caves and forests. Visitors can also explore several ancient temples located within the scenic area such as Zhongyue Temple which dates back to the Tang Dynasty. Shouxian Ancient Town is another popular destination in Lu’an which features well-preserved traditional architecture including stone bridges and old houses with courtyards.

Visitors can also see several historic landmarks such as Shou County Confucian Temple which was built in honor of Confucius. Lu’an’s economy relies heavily on coal mining industry due to abundant coal reserves in this region but efforts are being made to shift towards more sustainable industries such as renewable energy and high-tech manufacturing. Noteable History

  1. The Battle of Bowang: This battle took place near Lu’an in 194 AD during the Three Kingdoms period. It was fought between the forces of Liu Bei and Cao Cao.
  2. Zhu Yuanzhang: Zhu Yuanzhang, who later became Emperor Hongwu, was born in Fengyang County in Lu’an in 1328. He founded the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and ruled over China for 30 years.
  3. The Huaihai Campaign: This was one of the biggest battles during the Chinese Civil War (1945-1949). It took place near Lu’an at Huaihai from November 6 to December 10, 1948.
  4. Lü Buwei: Lü Buwei was a wealthy merchant from Lu’an who had significant political influence during the Warring States period (475-221 BC).
  5. The Yellow Turban Rebellion: In AD 184, a peasant rebellion known as the Yellow Turban Rebellion broke out in central China, including parts of Anhui province where Lu’an is located.
  6. Huang Tingjian: Huang Tingjian was a famous poet from Song Dynasty (960-1279) who lived near Lu’an.
  7. Zhang Daqian: Zhang Daqian was a renowned painter from Sichuan Province who spent his last years living near Lu’an until his death in 1983.
