Moanda is a small town located in the province of Bas-Congo, In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is situated on the southern bank of the Congo River and is known for its rich deposits of minerals, Particularly uranium. The town has a population of approximately 30, 000 people and is home to several mining companies. The history of Moanda dates back to the colonial era when it was first discovered by Belgian explorers. The town was initially established as a trading post for ivory and other goods.

However, It wasn’t until the 1950s that uranium was discovered in Moanda. This discovery led to an influx of miners from all over Africa who came to work in the mines. Today, Moanda remains an important center for mining activities in DRC. The town’s economy is heavily dependent on mining and related industries such as transportation and logistics. Several multinational corporations operate in Moanda including Areva SA, A French nuclear energy company.
