  1. Musoma was under German colonial rule from the late 19th century until World War I, when it became part of British East Africa.
  2. The Maji Maji Rebellion occurred in 1905, where the people of Musoma and other parts of Tanzania rose up against the German colonial authorities.
  3. Julius Nyerere, Tanzania’s first president, was born near Musoma and attended school there.
  4. TANU was formed in Musoma in 1954 by Julius Nyerere and other nationalist leaders to fight for independence from British colonial rule.
