During Morocco’s struggle for independence from France in the mid-twentieth century, many activists fought against French colonial rule including those from Nador region such as Mohamed Oufkir who later became one of King Hassan II’s top advisors until his death in mysterious circumstances in prison following an attempted coup d’état he organized against Hassan II regime in mid-1970s.
