The district was formed by merging two smaller districts – Orekhovo and Borisovo – in 1960. The history of Orekhovo-Borisovo Yuzhnoye dates back to the 16th century when it was first mentioned in historical records. During the Soviet era, It was known for its industrial prowess with several factories producing textiles, Chemicals, And machinery.
