Ōshū is a city located in the Iwate Prefecture of Japan, Situated in the northern part of Honshu, The largest island of Japan. The city has a population of around 120, 000 people and covers an area of approximately 1, 300 square kilometers. Ōshū is known for its rich history and cultural heritage that can be seen in its many temples, Shrines, And museums. One of the most famous attractions in Ōshū is the Chuson-ji Temple complex. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was founded in 850 AD by Buddhist monk Jikaku Daishi Ennin.
The temple complex consists of several buildings including the Konjikido (Golden Hall), Which houses over 3, 000 gold-leafed Buddhist statues and relics dating back to the Heian period (794-1185). The temple also features a beautiful garden with cherry blossom trees that bloom during springtime. Another popular attraction in Ōshū is Hiraizumi town. This historic town was once one of Japan’s wealthiest cities during the late Heian period (794-1185) under Fujiwara no Kiyohira’s rule. Today it contains several UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Motsuji Temple and Takkoku no Iwaya Bishamon-do Temple.
