Owo is a city located in the southwestern region of Nigeria, Within the state of Ondo. It is situated about 48 kilometers northeast of Akure, The state capital and has a population of over 300, 000 people. The city is known for its rich cultural heritage, Which dates back to pre-colonial times. One notable aspect of Owo’s culture is its traditional monarchy system. The town has been ruled by successive kings since the 15th century and their palaces are one of the major tourist attractions in Owo.
The palace architecture features intricate carvings and designs that showcase the skillful craftsmanship of local artisans. Another significant feature that makes Owo stand out is its artistry in beadwork and weaving. Women in this community have mastered the art of creating beautiful designs using beads made from different materials such as glass, Wood, Bone or stone.
