Petlād is a small town located in the Anand district of the Indian state of Gujarat. It is situated on the banks of the river Vatrak and is surrounded by lush green fields and forests. The town has a rich history dating back to ancient times and has been ruled by various dynasties, Including the Solankis, Mughals, Marathas, And British. One of the main attractions in Petlād is its temples. The most famous temple in Petlād is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built during the Solanki period.

This temple attracts thousands of devotees every year who come to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. Another popular temple in Petlād is dedicated to Goddess Durga and was built during the Mughal period. Apart from its temples, Petlād also has several other interesting landmarks such as its historic stepwell called Surya Kund. This stepwell was built during the Solanki period and has intricate carvings on its walls depicting various mythological stories. Petlād also boasts of a vibrant culture with several festivals celebrated throughout the year. One such festival is Navratri which celebrates Goddess Durga’s victory over evil forces.

During this festival, People dress up in traditional attire and perform Garba dance which originated from Gujarat itself. The town’s economy primarily depends on agriculture with crops like cotton, Groundnut, Wheat being grown here extensively. Several small-scale industries are also present here that manufacture products like textiles, Dairy products etc. The people of Petlād are warm-hearted and hospitable towards visitors coming to their town.   1. The town of Petlād was established in the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Akbar.
  2. During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, Petlād was one of the centers of resistance against British rule.
  3. Mahatma Gandhi visited Petlād several times during his campaigns for Indian independence and addressed public meetings here.
  4. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a key role in India’s struggle for independence and later became its first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, was born in a nearby village called Nadiad.
  5. The famous Gujarati poet Jhaverchand Meghani was also born near Petlād in a village called Chotila.
