Sai Wan Ho is a neighborhood situated on the eastern side of Hong Kong Island. It is surrounded by Victoria Harbour to the north, Shau Kei Wan to the east, Quarry Bay to the west, And Tai Koo Shing to the south. With a population of approximately 40, 000 people, Sai Wan Ho is known for its lively streets, Bustling markets and picturesque waterfront promenade. One of Sai Wan Ho’s most prominent landmarks is its MTR station which serves as a major transportation hub for both residents and visitors alike.

The station provides access to various parts of Hong Kong Island and beyond. Furthermore, There are several bus routes that run through Sai Wan Ho making it easy for people to get around. One of the most popular attractions in Sai Wan Ho is its wet market which offers an array of fresh seafood and produce along with clothing and household items. Visitors can explore through the aisles while sampling local delicacies such as dim sum or browsing unique souvenirs.

Another must-see attraction in Sai Wan Ho is its waterfront promenade which stretches along Victoria Harbour providing stunning views of Kowloon Peninsula across the water as well as Hong Kong Island’s skyline behind you.   • Noteable History

    1. On 16 December 1941, during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in World War II, over 50 Chinese civilians were killed by Japanese soldiers in Sai Wan Ho’s massacre.
    2. Sai Wan Ho is home to some of the oldest and most famous shipyards in Hong Kong, including the Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Company.
    3. Sir Yue-Kong Pao was born in Sai Wan Ho in 1918. He founded the World-Wide Shipping Group and served as a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong.
    4. Victoria Shanghai Academy is a prestigious international school located in Sai Wan Ho that offers both primary and secondary education established in 1965.
    5. On 30 August 1996, a major fire broke out inside the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel connecting Sai Wan Ho to Tseung Kwan O causing multiple fatalities and injuries known as Tseung Kwan O Tunnel Fire.
    6. Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum commemorates Dr Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary activities during his stay in Hong Kong from 1897 to 1911 located at Kom Tong Hall on Castle Road near Sai Wan Ho MTR Station.
    7. Hoi Kwai Road Market has been serving local residents for over half a century with fresh produce such as fish, meat, and vegetables located along Hoi Kwai Road wet market.
    8. Lau Wong Fat Secondary School is a well-known secondary school offering quality education since its establishment on September-1979 located at Yee Tai Street.
    9. SaiWanHill Military Cemetery contains graves from both World War I & II including Commonwealth soldiers who died defending HK during WW2.

    1. Sai Wan Ho Football Club – Founded in 1977, the club has a long history of playing football in Sai Wan Ho and other parts of Hong Kong. They have participated in many local tournaments and leagues.
    2. Eastern Sports Club – Established in 1932 as South China Athletic Association, the club was renamed Eastern Sports Club in 2016. The team has a rich history of success in various sports including football, basketball, volleyball and rugby.
    3. Tai Tam Tigers Rugby Football Club – Founded in 1985 by a group of expatriates living on Hong Kong Island’s south side including Sai Wan Ho area. The club has been successful over the years with many players representing Hong Kong at international level.
    4. Victoria Park Swimming Pool – Opened to public since 1957 Victoria Park Swimming Pool is one of the most popular swimming pools among local residents for swimming training or just leisure activities.
    5. Chai Wan Sports Centre – Located near to Sai Wan Ho area Chai Wan Sports Centre offers various indoor sports facilities such as badminton courts, table tennis tables and basketball courts for public use.

    1. Sai Wan Ho Cultural Festival celebrates the diversity of Sai Wan Ho through music, dance, food, and art.
    2. Tin Hau Festival is an annual event held to honor the goddess Tin Hau who protects fishermen and sailors.
    3. Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated in September or October with lantern displays, mooncakes, and traditional activities.
    4. Dragon Boat Carnival takes place every summer at Victoria Harbour with dragon boat races and cultural performances.

    6. Chinese New Year Parade celebrates Lunar New Year with a parade featuring floats adorned with flowers and lights as well as lion dances and firecrackers.
    7. Cheung Chau Bun Festival is a unique celebration on Cheung Chau Island that includes bun scrambling competitions where participants climb up towers made of buns to grab as many as they can!
    8. Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is a 130-year-old tradition during the Mid-Autumn Festival featuring a 67-meter-long dragon made from burning incense sticks parading through the streets of Tai Hang village in Causeway Bay.

    • Kam Kee Cafe & Bakery – famous for their pineapple buns (bo lo bao) which are soft on the inside but crispy on the outside with a sweet pineapple filling.
