  1. Santa Tecla was founded on August 8, 1854, by a group of families who had been displaced by an earthquake.

  3. Archbishop Óscar Romero was born in Ciudad Barrios but spent much of his life working in San Salvador. He is known for his advocacy for the poor and marginalized and was assassinated while celebrating Mass on March 24, 1980.
