Shangzhi is a county-level city located in the northeastern part of Heilongjiang Province in China. It is situated approximately 150 kilometers away from Harbin, The capital city of Heilongjiang. Shangzhi covers an area of 7, 000 square kilometers and has a population of over 500, 000 people. The city boasts beautiful mountains and rivers that make it an ideal destination for nature lovers. 1. Shangzhi Massacre: On December 12, 1945, Japanese soldiers killed over 1,500 Chinese civilians in retaliation for an attack by Chinese guerrillas in what is known as the Shangzhi Massacre. This event is one of the most notable historical events associated with Shangzhi.
2. Zhang Xueliang: Born in Shangzhi, Zhang Xueliang was a prominent warlord and military commander who played a key role in both the Chinese Civil War and World War II.
