Shangzhou, Also known as Shangluo, Is a city situated in the northwestern part of China’s Shaanxi province. The city has an area of 19, 000 square kilometers and a population of approximately 2.5 million people. It is located at the intersection of four major rivers: the Han River, Jialing River, Wei River and Qinling Mountains. Shangzhou has a rich cultural heritage dating back to ancient times and was one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. During the Zhou dynasty (1046-256 BC), It served as an important political center.

The city boasts many historical sites reflecting its long history including Famen Temple which houses Buddhist relics that are over 1, 000 years old. Agriculture is the primary economic activity in Shangzhou with crops such as wheat, Corn and rice being grown in abundance.
