Turmero is a city located in the Aragua state of Venezuela, Situated about 90 kilometers west of Caracas, The capital city. The population of Turmero is approximately 250, 000 people and it’s known for its rich cultural heritage, Scenic beauty, And vibrant local economy. The city was founded in 1620 by Spanish colonizers who were attracted to the area’s fertile soil and abundant natural resources. Over time, Turmero grew into a bustling agricultural center that produced coffee, Cacao, Sugar cane, And other crops that were exported throughout South America.

Noteable History

1. The Battle of Turmero was fought on December 4, 1813 between Spanish royalist forces and Venezuelan patriots led by José Félix Ribas. The patriots emerged victorious, making it one of the most significant battles in Venezuela’s fight for independence.
2. Rafael Urdaneta was a Venezuelan military leader who played an important role in the country’s fight for independence from Spain. He spent some time living in Turmero.
3. Francisco de Miranda was another revolutionary who fought against Spanish rule during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He also spent time living in Turmero.
4. Juan Vicente Gómez was a dictator who governed Venezuela from 1908 until his death in 1935. He had an estate near Turmero where he would escape from his responsibilities as ruler.
5. Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa founded several schools and universities throughout Venezuela, including Universidad Nacional Experimental Simón Rodríguez located in Turmero. He served as Minister of Education under President Rómulo Betancourt from 1959 to 1964.
6. José Antonio Anzoátegui was born in Barcelona but lived for some time at Turmero during the War of Independence. He participated with Simón Bolívar at Junín (Peru) on August 6, 1824.
7. José Rafael Revenga participated with Simón Bolívar at the Battle of Boyacá (Colombia) on August 7, 1819. He was born in Caracas but lived for some time at Turmero during the War of Independence.
