Villanueva is a quaint town situated in the Cortes department of Honduras, About 30 kilometers south of San Pedro Sula. The town has a population of around 50, 000 people and is known for its agricultural production, Particularly in coffee and sugarcane. One of the main attractions in Villanueva is the Central Park. It serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike with beautiful gardens, Benches to relax on, And a fountain that lights up at night.

Food vendors selling traditional Honduran snacks like baleadas (a flour tortilla filled with refried beans and cheese) and tamales are also available. The Municipal Market is another popular spot in Villanueva where locals go to buy fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables.   3. Augusto César Sandino spent some time in Villanueva during his exile from Nicaragua after leading an armed resistance against US occupation forces in the late-1920s, although he wasn’t born there.
  4. In October of 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated Honduras causing widespread destruction and loss of life including damage to Villanueva.
  5. The CA-5 highway is one of the most important highways connecting Central America from Guatemala to Panama and passes through Villanueva.
