Winter Haven is a city located in the heart of Central Florida, United States. Sports Teams

  1. The Detroit Tigers had their spring training in Winter Haven for over 30 years, from 1934 to 1966. They were able to win the American League pennant twice during this time, in both 1940 and 1945.
  2. The Boston Red Sox trained in Winter Haven for a little over two decades, from 1966 to 1992. They experienced great success during this time period, winning the American League pennant in 1986 and breaking their infamous championship drought by winning the World Series in 2004.
  3. From 1993 to 2008, the Cleveland Indians held their spring training in Winter Haven as well. Despite making it to the World Series twice during this period (in both ’95 and ’97), they were unfortunately unable to secure a championship either time.
  4. The Kansas City Royals only trained at Winter Haven for one season – specifically, back in ’03.
  5. After decades of training elsewhere (primarily Clearwater), the Philadelphia Phillies moved their spring training operations to Lake Myrtle Sports Park starting back in ’17.
  6. Due to a change of ownership at Space Coast Stadium’s lease rights and subsequent plans for renovations that would limit its use exclusively for amateur athletics purposes, the Washington Nationals have been holding their spring training sessions at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex since last year’s session until present day instead of returning back Viera like before then.
