Wollongong is a coastal city situated in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located around 80 km south of Sydney and has a population of approximately 300, 000 people. 1. The Illawarra Hawks are a professional basketball team that competes in the National Basketball League (NBL). They have won one NBL championship, back in 2001.
2. The Wollongong Wolves FC is a football (soccer) club that plays in the National Premier Leagues NSW. Founded in 1980, they have won four National Soccer League championships, including three consecutive titles from 2000 to 2002.
3. Another football (soccer) club based in Wollongong is the South Coast Wolves FC. Formed in 2014 as a successor to the former Wollongong Wolves Youth Academy, they currently compete in the New South Wales State League.
