Yongji is a county-level city located in Shanxi province, China. It sits at the northernmost point of the province and shares borders with Inner Mongolia to the north. The city covers an area of 1, 283 square kilometers and has a population of over 400, 000 people. Yongji experiences a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The history of Yongji dates back over 2, 500 years when it was established as a small village during the Spring and Autumn period. Its strategic location made it important for military operations due to its proximity to Inner Mongolia.

Over time, Yongji became a prosperous trading center for goods such as silk and tea. One notable attraction in Yongji is the Wutai Mountain Scenic Area which covers over 200 square kilometers and features five peaks sacred to Buddhists all over China.
